I opened this book out of curiosity, intending to just read the first paragraph, but once I started I couldn't put it down. I read the whole book in one weekend.I'm not a native Spanish speaker, but this book was easy for me to read. The author paints vivid pictures of the Saharan desert and of all the characters of the novel without resorting to obscure, flowery words that you wouldn't hear in everyday speech.
And the story is amazing. It moves easily between the past and the present, between Barcelona and the Sahara - every time offering you another piece of the story so that the farther along you go, the more clearly you understand what has happened and is happening. The morning after I finished this novel, I woke up still thinking about it.

Una historia interesante y un tema muy original, que ilustra al lector sobre un suceso histórico del que no se conoce mucho. Escrita con sencillez y claridad, es una novela que vale la pena leerse. Solo le falto veracidad en ciertos episodios de la narración que resultan un tanto inverosímiles o poco convincentes, así como desarrollar más algunos personajes que se quedaron cortos.

Si eres amante de los libros que te atrapan y no quieres parar de leer, este libro es para ti. Espero tengas algo de paciencia porque el cambio brusco de épocas y situaciones te provocarán cierta confusión. Si el objetivo del libro es llamar la atención sobre la situación del Sahara, no creo que lo vaya a lograr en una escala interesante. El libro está escrito de forma que todo lo que quieres es saber que sucederá al final, un final por demás impresionante porque se sale de cualquier pronóstico. No me parace que sea una historia de amor, ya que lo que desencadena la búsqueda es más bien la curiosidad. Not bad anyway, al final me vi tentada a conocer algo más sobre esa zona del mundo.
La lectura de este libro nos plantea la cotidianidad del amor de una pareja de Jovenes ,que luego de una separacion de mas de veinte anos, por un accidente de la vida, lleva a Montserrat al subsahara espanol en la busqueda del legionario San Roman,su novio de la adolecencia. Excelente trama con un buen juego del tiempo asi como de dialogos agiles y descriptivos que nos llevan a un recorrido por el sahara y nos dan algo de luz sobre la lucha emancipadora del frente polisario.El final es tremendamente sorpresivo. Es un libro de una lectura facil con unas caracteristicas de adicion ya que desde que comienza su lectura no lo dejas hasta concluirlo.

Luis Leante wrote a gem of a novel and it is no surprise that this book won the Premio Alfaguara de Novela 2007. Without having read anything from this author before, I trusted the many articles and editorial reviews that I read about Mira si yo te querre. It would not be fair to go into details about this book but I will say the descriptions of the Sahara, the characters, the main theme and the narration are the strong points of this novel. The locations mentioned inspired me to look up some these places in Northern Africa to better appreciate the descriptions. The love story of Montse and Santiago and Montse's quest to find her "Santiago San Roman" in the Sahara is moving. Luis Leante's research and hard work has resulted in a one of a kind book. Well worth the read and the award.

I enjoyed reading this book, particularly I found the plot refreshing with an unexpected and hanging finish. Perhaps, a brief transaltion of the arab terms would help the reader to fuller understanding of the novel.
